The Passion of Joan of Arc is a silent French film, produced in 1928, that was not rediscovered until the 1980s. The movie is based on the actual records of the trail and execution of the 15th-century young female saint who had visions of holy persons who led her to assist the French in becoming independent of England at the end of the Hundred Years War. Many consider the film a masterpiece of early cinematography and acting on the part of the lead, Renée Jeanne Falconetti.
